Four Meditations

Meditation is the practice of connecting to the deepest part within you. In meditation you focus on your inner being. You investigate your sensations, thoughts and feelings and go beyond to an experience of profound peace and contentment. Here are four meditations you might like to try.

Contemplate an object as shimmering consciousness. Think about how every atom, from a solid rock to transparent air, is filled with energy. Expand the thought to consider all energy as universal energy. It is dynamic, creative and intimate. Picture the energy in a single object and project the image of pulsating power within. Close your eyes and meditate on an object as shimmering consciousness.

Something that doesn't make sense. Consider a current problem or choice you may have, or even something that occasionally bothers you. Perhaps no matter how you look at it, you don't understand it. Allow yourself to let it go with peace and acceptance. Close your eyes and meditate on letting go of something that doesn't make sense.

Eyes open. Keep your eyes open and gaze at an object or your surrounding environment. Turn your attention to your inner world. Allow the outer world to lose importance as you continue to focus on the inner world. Be present and experience the pulsating energy of your life force. Meditate on your inner awareness with your eyes open.

Mirror image. Contemplate the reflections that appear in a mirror. Allow your mind to see that these images, no matter how varied, are still just the mirror. Combine this concept of the mirror with the idea that the whole world, no matter how varied, is nothing different from universal awareness. Close your eyes and meditate on the mirror image still being the mirror.
